101Nights - July 25-November 2, 2020
2020 marked anniversaries of Women’s Right to Vote in the United States. The Scheherazade Project held its first major activism through storytelling arts event. At least one woman telling a story through any artform – spoken word, written, visual, musical, dance, and more – volunteered to perform via stream across multiple platforms every night from Saturday July 25th through Monday November 2nd – the eve of Election Day 2020.
In the midst of the Covid pandemic, we drew us all to our front yards, balconies, porches, and streets on the eve of Election Day 2020 to tell our stories to leaders of the world, the nation, states, cities, towns, and neighborhoods around the globe.
We encouraged you to stand in front of your State House, City Hall, the end of your driveway, or even in the middle of an open field sharing a story with the universe. Here in the U.S., cast our votes on November 3, 2020 – officially making our voices heard, building on the power we will have drawn attention to over the course of #101Nights.
Don’t consider yourself an artist? That’s okay. Share a reading of a story or poem with permission on social media or get involved by volunteering, donating to, or partnering with us.
The stories need not be political in nature. In fact, stories to delight, entertain, and enlighten are encouraged. After all, Scheherazade’s 1001 stories aimed to change the heart of a sultan. Together, let’s aim to share the power of our voices for good.
